I'm not sure if that is the underlying problem and if it is, I don't know how to make the read-only go away. After more researching, I saw that possibly the problem was that my files were read-only - I checked and they are but when i try to remove the read only, it doesn't 'stick' - what I mean is that I hit apply after clearing the checkbox but when I go back into properties, it is checked again.

After that I was able to load some books but then got a similar message except it was saying 'L:\\metadata.calibre' (instead of 'driveinfo calibre'). After researching, I re-formatted my drive to FAT32, reloaded my calibre, still got the error and eventually did a restore of the Kindle. I have a Kindle PW and have been getting the below error message all day. Successfully initialized third party plugins: DeDRM (6, 6, 3) Per your instructions, here is the debug log from Calibre:Ĭalibre 4.23 embedded-python: True is64bit: True I tried downloading from Amazon directly into the Paperwhite and then checking for the title via a USB connection to my PC, but could not see the book either with the PC’s directory structure or with “Add Books” in Calibre.Īny advice you can give me about how to continue to deDRM my books is greatly appreciated. I do not understand how the Paperwhite S/N applies to an ebook downloaded into the Kindle for PC app.

Amazon finally forced a Kindle automatic update on me and now I can’t de-DRM my books. I disabled the Kindle automatic updates in order to preserve the old DRM encoding. From Calibre, I could side-load my books into my Kindle Papwewhite or email them to the Kindle app on my iPhone. I used Kindle for PC version 1.17 to import and open my ebooks from Amazon then import them into Calibre using the “Add Books” feature. I have been using Calibre with Apprentice Alf’s DeDRM plugin successfully for a number of years.
